Tasmania was originally known as Van Dieman's Land, after its discoverer, Abel Tasman. The present name was adopted in 1853. There were only three values of Chalon Head Vandiemensland stamps: 1p, 2p and 4p. |

Scott #13 1857 Four Pence Blue Misplaced Entry This stamp shows a strong downwards shift of 0.5mm, with a horizontal line found in the upper right corner of the design, as well as a heavy line through FOUR PENCE and duplication of the bottom frameline in the lower margin.

Scott #13 1857 Four Pence Blue Major Re-entry This stamp shows a strong upwards shift, with the upper frameline duplicated in the upper margin, marks in much of VANDIEMENSLAND, and heavy lines in the bottoms of both POSTAGE and FOUR PENCE. The lower corner ornaments also show lines of doubling.
