We open this section with a very exotic-looking piece, showing an entry of the U.S. INTER. REV. design in the lower margin below the main design. This could be any value from Sc. R5 through Sc. R15. This is a spectacular example of a foreign entry which would have been lost had the bottom selvedge been removed. It likely happened in the same manner as Canada’s own 5¢ on 6¢ Small Queen, due to the over-rocking of a multiple-design transfer roll containing two or more values.
The other examples below show evidence of a foreign entry within the stamp image itself, rather than completely separate from it as this one. Many of them are rather difficult to make out, as you shall see, so they take some real detective work to identify them.

This one is much more subtle, with arcs to the upper left and upper right of the upper pair of 2’s, smudging in the upper margin, markings above the letters of TWO at left-centre, and markings in and around some of the letters of CERTIFICATE at the bottom.

This one has subtle markings in the top pair of 2’s, with the most noticeable feature found in the design to the immediate right of the lower right 2 and the curved lines of the scroll below it.

This one has markings in the top margin, as well as several diagonal lines upwards into the S of PLAYING CARDS. Other marks can be found in and around the letters of CENTS, and to the right of the lower right 2.

This one shows marked additional arching lines in the upper portion of the design, crossing into the R of DOLLAR and heavy vertical lines in the & sign following DOLLAR. This is a very striking foreign entry!

Position #18UL (& 19)
This is one of the better-known foreign entries on a US revenue stamp. Indeed, there were actually 11 positions on the plate that show evidence of the 70¢ design underneath the main 60¢ design. There are 9 of the 11 positions shown here below. This one shows a prominent double-arc through the axe blade to the left of the S of SIXTY and across the centre of the axe cylinder. There is also a curved line under the SIXT that appears to join the letter together.
The stamp on the right of the pair is also identified as one of the foreign entry positions, but the details are much harder to detect.

Position #21UL
This is another one of the better-known foreign entries on a US revenue stamp showing the 60¢ design on top of the 60¢ design from plate position #21. There are curved lines in both the upper left and upper right axe blade details, with those on the left being much stronger than those on the right. There is also a strong single line below the SIXT to just below the Y of SIXTY. There are also marks in the white border above INTER. over the N and T.

This is another of the better-known foreign entries on a US revenue stamp showing parts of the 70¢ design below the 60¢ design. Here you can see a single curved line on the right passing through the axe blade, along with an arc below the XT of SIXTY.

This is yet another one of the better-known foreign entries on a US revenue stamp, with curved lines in the upper labels at both the left and the right (stronger on the left) and a single line below the SIXTY for the whole length. Portions of the letters of SEVENTY show in the white border above U.S. INTER. with marks in the S, I and N of U.S. INTER.

This is one of the strongest of the better-known foreign entries on a US revenue stamp, with heavy arched lines in both of the upper left and upper right corners. There is one single line below the SIXTY for its entire length, and portions of the letters of SEVENTY are seen in the white border above INTER., with clear marks in the NT and a faint vertical line in the E.
This is a lovely stamp!

This is one of the strongest of the better-known foreign entries on a US revenue stamp, with heavy arched lines in both of the upper left and upper right corners. There is one single line below the SIXTY for its entire length, and portions of the letters of SEVENTY are seen in the white border above INTER., with clear marks in the NT and a faint vertical line in the E. It appears almost identical to position #34, except that the position dot in the upper right corner is further to the right.

This is another one of the 60¢ on 70¢ foreign entries on this US revenue stamp. There is an arched line only at the right end of the upper right label, which is not very strong and does not run far into the halberd. There is no extra line under SIXTY.

Position #85UR
This is the final example of this better-known foreign entry on a US revenue stam. There are lines only at the right end of the upper label, and meet the design midway from the Y to the right edge of the label. There is no line below SIXTY. There are also no markingsof the 70¢ design in any of the letters of U.S. INTER., however, there is a curved line above the NT.
You will have noticed that the doubled portions are all confined to the upper portion of the 60¢ design.
